Software Technology: Research Project

OUR MISSION: SIMULATE A BASKETBALL SHOT IN HOUDINI

STEP ONE: Model a basketball and a hoop

I went for an ABA/Globetrotters basketball, but in the end it was all in vain because after importing it into Houdini the colors were lost.

In Wireframe

After importing the basketball into Houdini to test it, i found that the colors were gone, so when modeling the hoop i decided to 86 coloring the hoop itself

and the two together for scale

STEP TWO: import them into Houdini

Into The Geo Node

STEP THREE: SIMULATE IT

In The AutoDop Node, The Basketball Node's Attributes

Visual Development: Asset Creation - Part 3

Finally, our bottle needed a lable of some kind. I decided to find a Predator themed label; as for some reason I themed my project around it. I did actually find out that there is a seasonal ale made by Fort Collins Brewery called "Carl Weathers as Dillon In Predator Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale". Which would have been PERFECT but i couldnt find the label, so i decided i had to go with the next best thing, which of course is the best quote from the film.

And of course, this wonderful accident:

Visual Development: Asset Creation - Part 2

As previously stated, the assets were modeled however, we needed to create the look of the glass being embossed like an old glass coke bottle. So to achieve that we used alpha channels and exploited the bump map to read the alpha.

Here is the embossment if you could not see it previously, due to the small image size Blogger requires.

Here is the alpha itself, it is the "Mark of The Hunter" from Predator

Visual Development: Asset Creation - Part 1

Here are a few of the things i assembled for my lighting project.

The models were previously assembled but did not contain a cohesive/user friendly UV layout, i assembled the UV layout and used photo reference to make the textures

The Spackle Knife:

The Blue Object (our instructor called it a Pulley, but i have no idea what kind of pulley):

Visual Development: Final Project

My Visual Development Final. All assets were previously modeled, The Books, and Shelves were also previously textured. I cannot take credit for those. The rest however; was assembled, textured, and lit by myself.

Visual Effects 1: Project 3 - Soft Bodies

VEF1: Project 3 - Soft Bodies

Again, going with a Super Mario theme, the original idea was for 3 separate geometries to be fired from the cannon, and squish into the wall, and fall and squish into the ground again, you can see the storyboard below. Figuring out the motion path without using simulation was very difficult, i knew how i wanted my scene to behave, and using simulation wouldn't yield the results i wanted. I'm going to give this scene a once over again in my spare time to add some more to it. I'd like the cannon fire to have a cartoon expansion of the barrel when the characters are fired, i also want to add the other characters.
